Santorini Villages

The most famous places in Santorni are Fira, Oia and Imerovigli, traditional villages built at the edge of huge cliffs offering impressive views over the sea, the volcano, the sunset and the neighbourhood islet of Thirassia. Also there are the newly built Kamari and Perissa, situated at the coast near marvellous beaches that attract many visitors. And if you prefer more quiet places to rest and live the unique atmosphere of the island, there are several other villages to visit.

Fira [ map ]
Fira is the capital of Santorini and the largest town of the island. It is located at the west in a distance of 10km from the main port of Athinios.
Imerovigli [ map ]
Imerovigli, is a charming village built in the lip of the crater (300m above the caldera) in a distance 2km from Fira.
Perissa [ map ]
Perissa is a seaside settlement, lying in a distance of 15km from the capital of Fira.
Emporio [ map ]
Emporio is a large village located at the center of the island with small picturesque streets and hills with windmills.
Oia [ map ]
It lies on the northern side of the island, on top of the cliff. Oia offers a different angle of view on the volcano, the neighbour small islands of Palia and Nea Kameni and Thirassia, a quite impressive one.
Kamari [ map ]
Kamari is a typical summer resort in Santorini, located in a distance of 10km south-east of Fira. Unlike the usual, Kamari is inhabited all the year round.
Megalochori [ map ]
A peaceful and traditional village, with its vaulted houses and stone-cobbled streets, Megalochori is located approximately nine kilometers from Fira.
Monolithos [ map ]
Named after the rock of the same name, on top of which stands the church of St. George.
Messaria [ map ]
Just four kilometres southeast of Fira, surrounded by gardens and vineyards lies the beautiful village of Messaria, where the famous Santorinian wine is produced.
Karterados [ map ]
The village is located two kilometers east of Fira, with interesting architecture and three churches worth visiting.
Ammoudi
Just below Oia, this magnificent tiny village has been here since the beginning of the 19th century, when Ammoudi was Oia’s commercial port with boats loading pumice stone.
